FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What does Vangardist do?
Vangardist is an alternative asset consultancy specialising in investment-grade physical wine and whisky. We support clients with sourcing, storage, portfolio management, and secondary-market brokerage.
What types of wine and whisky do you offer?
Our focus includes selected fine wine from recognised estates, such as blue-chip Bordeaux and Grand Cru Burgundy, as well as selected rare whisky opportunities subject to availability.
What is bonded storage?
Bonded storage is a designated storage arrangement for eligible goods held under applicable customs and excise rules. For qualifying wine and spirits, duty and VAT may be suspended or deferred while goods remain under bond, subject to the relevant rules.
Where are my wines stored?
Wine portfolios are held through LCB, with each client’s wines allocated to their own dedicated sub-account.
Will the assets be held in my name?
Ownership and title documentation are provided according to the relevant asset and transaction arrangements. Speak to our team for details of your specific portfolio.
Can I track my portfolio?
Clients may receive access to relevant inventory records, ownership documents, warehouse records, and other information according to the applicable custody arrangement.
Can I sell my wine or whisky portfolio?
Yes. Vangardist provides secondary-market brokerage support. We can review your stock list, conduct an initial valuation, and explore buyer introductions.
How does valuation work?
You submit producer, quantity, vintage or year, and other stock details. Our trade desk reviews the information against available market indicators and discusses the next steps.
How long does it take to sell?
There is no guaranteed sale timeline. Timing depends on the assets, pricing, market conditions, buyer interest, and transaction arrangements.
Are there any risks?
Yes. Physical wine and whisky are alternative tangible commodities. Values can fluctuate, liquidity may vary, and there is no guarantee of capital growth.
Do I need previous experience?
No. Our team can explain the ownership process, relevant market considerations, and custody arrangements.
